Steve Mann, principal of Home Energy Services, headquartered in Berkeley, California, has been involved in the construction industry for more than 35 years as an owner/designer/builder, special inspector, and energy consultant. His consulting practice focuses on assisting architects, contractors, developers, real estate professionals, and homeowners with sustainable design and construction practices, with an emphasis on energy modeling and consulting for high-performance residential buildings.
Steve’s work is exclusively focused on Passive House projects. His two most recent owner-builder projects are both LEED Platinum and Passive House certified. He has client projects throughout California and has completed projects in Canada, Colorado, Japan and the Philippines.
Steve's credentials include Passive House Institute-credentialed building Certifier, Tradesperson, Consultant, and Trainer. He is a former California Certified Energy Analyst and HERS Rater, LEED AP+ Homes, and a LEED for Homes Green Rater. He currently provides training development and services for the North American Passive House Network and has hundreds of hours of adult education experience.
Steve has participated in multiple subject matter expert groups for GBCI, the LEED credentialing authority. He is also a former Home Energy Magazine contributing editor, former President and Board member of Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County, and former President and Board member of the California Association of Building Energy Consultants (CABEC).
